Our Christian lives become extremely vulnerable when Bible reading and Bible study and Bible mediation is edged out because we feel so busy or we feel pressured or we feel so tired. It's an easy thing to come home and just watch on the TV and waste a few hours; and we never get around to spend time in the Word of God.

Visions from Heaven

So, what is a vision? It is that which comes form heaven that God puts into your heart. You delight yourself in God. He puts the desires into your heart. It will energize you; it will be external in its focus. It'll be eternal in its consequences.

The clay can be damaged in many ways. It says the clay is damaged in the potter's hand - not damaged by the potter, though it was in his hand. Many of the damages are self-inflicted.

Missing Christ

These are events that lie at the very heart and centre of the Christian message. Now they don’t make sense outside of a framework, a theological framework, and understanding of what exactly was going on. And there is a lot of confusion as to what was going on, perhaps, a lot of indifference as to what was going on.

So how are you going to correct what is wrong and that deviates from the sound doctrine that comes from the “glorious gospel of God”, as he puts it? By proclaiming the gospel of God and by proclaiming sound doctrine, which addresses the cause that lies behind it.

Do you notice something here? I didn’t notice it when I was preparing this until I was getting towards to the end. And what I actually noticed is that he doesn’t say, “Parents, teach your children to obey because this is right.” He says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

What does that mean about the husband being the head of the body, being the head of his wife? It means he holds the marriage together; he supports and enables the growth of the marriage; he builds his wife up with love (and we’ll see in a moment what he goes on to say that will involve), and he saves it. And he provides a shelter from the storm, a refuge, a hiding place; all of that is included in the fact that he saves it.

Be Filled With The Spirit

There is something inexplicable about why the Holy Spirit works in such a way that this person comes to Christ and that person doesn’t, because it is the Holy Spirit’s task to work in people’s hearts in whatever circumstances will make that appropriate for Him. And He works in all kinds of circumstances that we don’t anticipate that suddenly brings us face to face with the work of God.

Because God created human beings as social beings and as sexual beings and it is not good to be alone, to be isolated. We are made for social friendship and we are made and designed that we should live in a sexual relationship, which is designed to be within marriage.

Grieving The Holy Spirit

I don’t think we can be sure that we are really one of God’s people until we know that inner assurance that the Holy Spirit gives to us, where He sets us apart, marks us off, puts His stamp of ownership and authenticates it with a sealing of the Holy Spirit, which is an experiential awareness that whereas my eyes were blind, now I can see; where I was dead, I am alive.

Why People Behave As They Do

Their darkened understanding and their futile thinking and their ignorance is based on the fact they do not possess spiritual life, which is the life of God from which they have become separated. They are separated from the life of God because the capacity to understand spiritual truth is dependent upon spiritual life.

And sadly, people are deceived, especially in the popular, materialistic doctrines that include prosperity and physical well-being, which are partially true in one sense but not the gospel, not the message.

And so those of us who are in the position of teaching or in leadership roles, our job is this and this alone: to so expound the Word of God in dependence upon the Holy Spirit that the result is that people are moved more fully on to God’s agenda for them, that they more fully grasp and are excited by the good works that God prepared in advance for them to do, that they engage in the works of service that God has planned for them.

Unity, Diversity, and Community

You see, having distinguished ourselves sufficiently, we begin to separate from everybody else and we get down to our little narrow identity and we say we have wonderful unity. But actually it is not unity; it is simply uniformity and the very act of such has created disunity in the actual body of Christ.
